Crites Seed Inc.   Throughout its 80-year history, Crites Seed has maintained an unwavering commitment to the propagation of superior seed lines. From Merle Stubbs, the founder of the research program, to Bob Arthur, the highly respected research director of the past three decades, Crites’s breeders have combined a mastery of the science (and art) of plant breeding with a solid understanding and appreciation of customers’ needs to produce a steady flow of new varieties serving the constantly escalating demands of both the processor and fresh markets.

On June 1, 2014, Bob Arthur assumed the new role of research consultant, relinquishing the post of research director to his long-time assistant, Jeff Safe. Jeff amassed more than 20 years of pea breeding experience working with Bob, and in 2009 he initiated Crites’s bean breeding program, a program complementing that of Pop Vriend Seeds, Crites’s partner in snap bean marketing and seed production. One measure of the effectiveness of Bob and Jeff’s breeding efforts is Crites’s current list of 19 active PVP certificates—with applications in process for several additional lines.

Crites’s Research Department utilizes two facilities, one located in Moscow, Idaho, and the other near Quincy, Washington. Each facility includes a state-of-the-art greenhouse.
